With the season drawing to a close and the playoffs near, the Benjamin Russell Wildcats wrestling team will face the Red Devils of Central-Phenix City tonight.
The Benjamin Russell grapplers have been in fine form during their past few outings.
In the Homewood Duals, the Benjamin Russell Wildcats were able to secure a record of 3-2 versus the field.
With Phenix City coming to town, BRHS wrestling coach Andrew Campbell said he expects the Red Devils to offer quite the challenge to his team.
“They’re always very athletic,” Campbell said of the Red Devils’ wrestling teams. “What we’re going to have to do is match our skills with their athleticism and not let up on the intensity.”
With tonight’s meet also being Senior Night for Benjamin Russell’s wrestling team, Campbell said that there was added incentive to strive for victory.
“Since it is Senior Night, it’s important for us to wrestle well,” he said. “You don’t want to lose on Senior Night.”
Campbell said that the main goal for the Wildcats is to continue to develop their killer instinct as tournament time approaches.
“The main thing for us right now is keeping up the intensity,” Campbell said.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
