Boat show splashes into Alexander CityPublished 2:49pm Friday, January 18, 2013
Bouncy houses, hayrides, a petting zoo, giveaways and a pontoon boat show are all free at the American Motorsports Pontoon Boat Show, beginning today at American Motorsports.
“We’re here to sell boats, but it’s basically going to be an event for the community,” said Donna Arthur with American Motorsports.
Arthur said they have previously done the show in Birmingham – this will be the first year for it to be held in Alexander City.
“This year with the economy … we need to keep it here for our community,” Arthur said.
The show will be held today through Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Arthur said they expect the weekend to be particularly busy as well as Monday, since it’s a holiday.
A number of groups will be present at the event – the Lake Martin Animal Shelter will have pets available for adoption, and the Boys and Girls Club will be selling items as a fundraiser.
The event will also feature children’s activities – including hayrides, bounce houses and a petting zoo – in addition to having a number of boats on display.
Arthur said they are really excited to offer the event.
“We’re bringing people that are in the community that can make money instead of doing it (in Birmingham),” Arthur said. “It’s just a big party.”
A number of drawings will also be available for prizes donated by community businesses – everything from gift certificates to fire extinguishers to coolers.
“We want everybody to enjoy themselves,” Arthur said.
