Edna Mildred Abernathy

Funeral services for Ms. Edna Mildred Abernathy, age 86 of Alexander City, will be held at 11AM Friday, January 11, 2013 in the chapel of Bass Funeral Home. Rev. Zenus Windsor will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Gillead Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 6-8PM at Bass Funeral Home.

Ms. Abernathy passed away on January 8, 2013 at Russell Medical Center. She was born on March 25, 1926 in Clay County to William Erving and Maude Tidwell. Ms. Abernathy was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Clay County. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She had an exemplary work ethic and a tremendous ability to make much out of little.

She is survived by two sons: William R. Abernathy (Jill) of Prattville and James Michael Abernathy (Brenda)of Boaz; two daughters: Judy Crouch (Miles) of Dadeville and Rita Jane Waldrop (Allen) of Ashland; two sisters: Shirley Estes of Abanda and Stella Sewell of Birmingham; two sisters-in-law: Sarah Tidwell of Pensacola and Doris Tidwell of Alex. City; 8 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Maude Tidwell; husband: James Ronald Abernathy; two daughters: Janis Fay Butler and Nancy L. Bryant; three brothers: Wilburn, Max and J.C. Tidwell and one sister, Pearl Harris.
