Fruit of the Loom to lay off 190 Alexander City employees

Fruit of the Loom will be cutting 190 of the 390 Alexander City decoration employees.

A letter was mailed out to employees Thursday explaining the reduction.

The letter, which is signed by Tony Greeson, vice president of manufacturing, said that a permanent reduction of the Alexander City workforce was necessary due to the competiveness of the apparel market.

The reduction will occur on or around March 5.
