Mr. Robert Joseph McCord

Funeral service for Robert Joseph McCord, 81, of Alexander City, will be Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Alexander City Methodist Church.  Rev. Wayne Cowhick and Rev. John Mann will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at Alexander City Methodist Church.

Mr. McCord passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012 at his residence.  He was born on December 27, 1931 in Goodwater, Alabama to Joseph Wheeler McCord and Edna Arbie Humphrey McCord.  He was a member of Alexander City Methodist Church and loved his church dearly.  He started college at Southern Union and finished at Carson Newman.  He was a hard worker and taught school at Red Hill and Stewartville for a brief time and worked 37 plus years for Russell Corp. in the bleachery. Mr. McCord was a simple, content man and a practical joker.  He had a love of sports, especially BRHS and Alabama football, Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, and the Dallas Cowboys. Mr. McCord even played minor league baseball in New Orleans during his earlier years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Myra C. McCord of Alexander City; daughter, Laura Jo McCord of Alexander City; son, Robert Shane McCord of Alexander City; sister, Shirley J. Tedder (Bobby) of Carlisle, KY; brother, Zack D. McCord (JoAnne) of Prattville; sisters-in-law, Faye Rustin (Tom) of Griffin, GA and Eulene Pritchard (Donald) of Alexander City; brother-in-law, Danny Champion (Carol) of Alexander City; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James F. McCord.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given to the Alex City Methodist Building Fund, 1020 North 11th Avenue, Alexander City, AL 35010.
