With strong finishes at the Swede Invitational last week at Auburn High School, the Benjamin Russell High School Wildcat wrestling team continues to excel through the early part of the 2012 AHSAA season.
Senior Devante Stamps won first place in the tournament, while classmates Blake Chappell and Gavin Fuller both took second place.
Daniel Bland, Logan Clark and Deon Maxwell all took fourth place in the invitational.
With that behind them, Benjamin Russell topped McAdory and Shelby County high schools in dominant fashion this past Tuesday night on the road.
The Wildcats defeated McAdory in the first match 66-12 and then topped home team Shelby County 60-12 in the final match of the night.
Fuller won both of his matches, one of which was against won of the top wrestlers in the state for McAdory.
The Wildcats lost only one match and the rest were essential pins.
The only points given up by Benjamin Russell other than the one loss were due to forfeits that the Wildcats had to give up due to voids in their roster.
The Wildcats will host both Central-Phenix City and Jeff Davis High Schools on Saturday afternoon in a home meet at the Benjamin Russell High School gymnasium.
