Lady Cats can’t hang with AuburnPublished 10:04am Wednesday, December 12, 2012
The Benjamin Russell High School girls got off to a rough start last night at home against Auburn High School, but fought back to make it interesting and lost 54-38 to the Lady Tigers.
Auburn opened the game on an 11-0 run before two Jernika Russell free throws took the deficit to 11-2.
The lady Tigers took an 18-6 lead into the second quarter.
Auburn then came out in a full court press that disrupted the BRHS offense and had a 34-14 lead at the half.
Benjamin Russell outscored Auburn 16-3 in the third quarter and brought the score back to 37-30, but Auburn closed the game on a run that made the final score 54-38 in the fourth quarter.
Russell led BRHS with 22 points, but the Lady Wildcats were 10-of-27 from the free throw line and had 29 turnovers as a team.
“We came out flat tonight,” BRHS head coach Ron Rowe said.
“We’ve got to play a complete game and get aggressive on a nightly basis no matter who we play.”
