Funeral service for Mrs. Joan Blanks Waites, 76, of Alexander City, will be Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Dr.  Skip Lowery will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park.  The family received friends on Monday, December 3, 2012 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Waites passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Baptist Medical Center South.  She was born on September 6, 1936 in Clay County, Alabama to William Luther Blanks and Myrtle Ezell McDaniel Blanks.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, an avid reader, a talented writer, and enjoyed difficult crossword puzzles.  She worked for many years as the office manager at Blythe Insurance Agency and Wedgeworth Pest Control.  She enjoyed spending time talking with her friends on the telephone.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, William David “Bill” Waites of Alexander City; daughter, Dee Dee Waites Loyd (Jimmy), of Altoona, AL; son, Ray Waites (Shelley),  of Rockford; sister-in-law, Ruth White of Alexander City; grandchildren Hunter Waites (Hayden), Heath Waites, Rayley Waites, Parker King, Jessie Loyd, and Jamie Loyd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Janie Maude Blanks Hodnett (Freeman), Marcus Leon Blanks(Luvelia), Annie Lula Blanks Fetner (Jessie Hugh), William Elliott Blanks, and Daniel Malvin Blanks(Jerry Lene).
