Man dies in stabbing

Published 10:33am Saturday, December 1, 2012

An Alexander City man was stabbed to death Thursday in what police are calling a domestic incident that escalated out of control.

The incident at 9:06 p.m. began when police were called to respond to the 900 block of Maple Street to find Jesus Catero Flores, 24, of Alexander City, bleeding from a wound in his upper torso.

Flores was transported to Russell Medical Center, but Flores was soon pronounced dead.

Lt. Jay Turner, with the Alexander City Police Department, said that the victim’s wife, Luz Maria Ramirez, 20, of Alexander City was taken into police custody.

“We have no idea what the fight was about – it was a domestic incident gone bad,” Turner said. “We just know that they got into an argument that escalated and led to a stabbing.”

Turner said that investigators believe a kitchen knife was the weapon used to inflict the mortal wound.

Ramirez has been charged with murder, police say.

Turner said there were four children at the residence when the incident occurred. One child, a 3-year-old female, belonged to the couple. The child was released into the custody of family members.

Ramirez will go before the judge for a bond hearing next week.
