List of upcoming events grows as Christmas nears

Published 12:40pm Friday, November 30, 2012

The marketing team is currently discussing the Letters to Santa special section, Linda Ewing erected a festive Christmas tree, and baby… you better believe it is cold outside! Chrima’ is happening!

Pull out your calendar and stay with me – we have a lot happening in the next week. Tonight is the Black and White Charity Ball, benefiting the United Way, at the Rodeo Club.

The Children’s Harbor Christmas Market will be held this Saturday at the Harbor Lodge from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Support your local artisans!  Art is a great gift.

Alexander City’s Holiday Open House is Sunday from 1-4 p.m., along with the downtown Christmas tree lighting. Let’s all shop local!

The Alexander City Christmas Parade is Monday evening, and it beings at 6 p.m.  There is nothing more American than a small town Christmas parade. It will always bring back fond memories for me, as my grandmother, Margaret Shaffer, was our local Mrs. Claus for years and always rode in the parade. I also always looked forward to George Hardy’s wild stunts and the horses at the end.

Strap on your running shoes and enter in FUMC’s 2012 Jingle for Tots, a week from tomorrow. Register by Dec. 4. You have the option of the 1 mile, 5K or 10K. Participants are asked to contribute a toy to be donated to the Salvation Army. After the run, runners indulge in a pancake breakfast. Tear out the form from the November issue of LAKE, register online, or swing by the church. It is for a good cause and good for your health. I plan to run the 10K race myself.

Remember to keep me In the Loop for Christmas parties!
