Turnovers hurt Lady Tigers in loss
Published 9:07am Wednesday, November 28, 2012The Dadeville High School girls basketball team dropped to 1-1 on the season last night with a narrow 62-55 loss to Auburn High School last night.
The Lady Tigers had trouble dealing with the press early in the game as Auburn took a39-21 lead into halftime.
But Dadeville managed to cut the deficit to 45-37 with 1:30 left in the third quarter and only down 49-39 going into the final period.
With six minutes left in the game, Dadeville switched to the full court press and caused turnovers followed by a three pointer by Araven Edwards at the four minute mark and an basket with a foul :30 later. The baskets cut the score to 55-48
However Auburn would close the game on a run and lead to the final of 62-55.
Senior Rae Williams led Dadeville in scoring with 23 points, while Destiny Green added 16.
“I thought that we played hard. but we just made too many mistakes down the stretch,” said Dadeville girls head basketball coach Mitch Joiner, now in his second season after formerly coaching at Edward Bell before it closed.
“Turnovers early killed us and we got in a hole early that we really couldn’t dig out of.
“There was a time when I thought we had fought are way back and were going to have a shot but Auburn made the plays they needed to and were able to win the game.
“Overall though, I can already see improvement from numerous girls from last season and I think that is only going to get better and better as we go along and work together as a team.”
The Dadeville girls will host Lafayette Friday night at home.
