Jingle for Tots seeking participants, sponsors

The sixth annual Jingle for Tots 5K/10K 1 Mile Walk/Run is right around the corner and organizers are looking for sponsors and participants.

The annual run, which is scheduled for Dec. 8, not only raises money for the Alexander City First United Methodist Church Children’s Ministries, but the event helps local children in need have a merry Christmas this year.

The 5K and 10K races begin at 8 a.m. The 1-mile fun run is set for 9 a.m.

“Children have a lot of needs, but in my mind, they need to have Christmas morning be a joyful time,” said Tammy Wendling, director of children’s ministries for FUMC. Wendling said all money raised by participants and sponsors goes toward helping children in the community. Participants are all required to bring one toy, and these toys are donated to the Salvation Army.

“Several years ago, we used to attempt to meet all the needs of anyone that needed it, but it got too big for us – the need was so great,” Wendling said. “We decided to instead help the Salvation Army, which has a list of families in need for Christmas.”

Wendling said there are three levels of sponsorship. Those who give $250 and up will be listed on all advertisements for the race – including banners, flyers and the website. These sponsors will also have their logo featured on the back of the T-shirt.

For those who donate between $200 and $249, sponsorship will be listed on banners, on the back of the t-shirt and in race-day bags. All other sponsorship amounts will receive a listing on banners and advertisement in race-day bags.

“This is a great family morning – a lot of families use it to kick off Christmas,” Wendling said. “The best part is when everyone starts off. They all have bells on their shoes – it is just wonderful.”

Sponsors can register until Dec. 1.

Registration fees for participants will be $20 for the 5K, $25 for the 10K and $10 for the 1 mile fun run. Awards will be given to top 3 finishers in the 5K and 10K.

All racers will receive a pancake breakfast and T-shirt for registering. Participants must register by Dec. 4 to ensure T-shirt availability. The pancake breakfast is open to anyone, Wendling said, for $5.
