The Alexander City Outlook

The Alexander City Fire Department and Willow Point/Our Town Volunteer Fire Department responded to 1104 Willow Way East to a house fire around 1:15 p.m. Thursday to find half of the home engulfed in flames.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, which they believe began near the garage. Homeowners Ron and Marie Strag had left a half hour before the fire began.

The only fatality in the fire was the couple’s dog Tasse, which died due to smoke inhalation.

Firefighters said the right side of the home and the downstairs were salvaged. A Mercedes sedan and a lawnmower were completely destroyed by the flames.
