Funeral services for Mrs. Madelle Greer, 96, of Alexander City, were held Saturday, October 27, 2012 in the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home with Bro. James Cullins officiating.

Burial followed in the Alexander City Cemetery.

Mrs. Greer passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Chapman Healthcare Center.  She was born on September 14, 1916 in Coosa County, Alabama to Nathan A. Johnson and Ada Louvenia Wilson Johnson.

Madelle & Herschel Greer lived in Alexander City and over the years owned and operated several businesses in which Mrs. Greer worked as their bookkeeper.  In 1959 the family moved to Moultrie, Ga. and operated their family owned Western Auto Store until Mr. Greer’s death in 1970.

Mrs. Greer moved back to Alex City in 1971 to be near family.  She was a resident of Robinwood Apts for many years until moving to Hillabee Towers in 2010 and Chapman’s Health Care in 2011 and was a member of Alex City Church of Christ.

She is survived by her children, Herschel Greer of Ocilla, Ga., John Greer of Bamberg, SC, Julianne (Gary ) Cockey of Tampa, Fl., and David (Patsy) Greer of Alex City; 7 grandchildren; 11 Great-Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great-Grandchild; sisters Gladys J. King of Birmingham and Georgia J. Greer of Augusta, Ga.; 8 nieces; and 14 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herschel H. Greer, Sr.; infant son, Michael Wayne Greer; brother, Thomas L. Johnson; sister, Clemie J. Lumpkin; daughter in-law, Linda Tucker Greer; 1 niece; and 2 nephews.
