The success of the 2012 Benjamin Russell High School volleyball season came to a conclusion last Saturday morning at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex, as the Lady Wildcats lost in five sets to Spanish Fort High School and failed to qualify for the Elite Eight in Birmingham beginning this weekend.
Benjamin Russell won their first match at the Super Regional against Faith Academy to advance to the match against Spanish Fort.
The Lady Wildcats vaulted into the Class 5A state rankings in week three of the 2012 season and stayed in that place up until their loss Saturday to the Lady Toros.
Benjamin Russell went into the Super Regionals ranked No. 7 in Class 5A.
The loss ends the Lady Wildcats’ season at 33-11 and included win streaks of 10 games and eight games including a streak with one loss between early September and early November.
The new found volleyball success in Class 5A is one that is expected to continue for Benjamin Russell, who will only lose two seniors for the 2013 season in Sada Hutchins and setter Tatum Gandy.
Benjamin Russell rounded out their schedule in 2012 with impressive wins over Homewood, Auburn, Opelika, UMS-Wright, Briarwood Christian, and Brewer.
