Funeral service for Mrs. Katie L. Whaley Cotney, 89, of Alexander City, will be Friday, October 26, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home.  Dr. Albert Pike will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 1:30 pm to 3 pm at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cotney passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Russell Medical Center.  She was born on December 16, 1922 in Clay County, Alabama to Charlie Northern Cole and Irene Robertson Cole.  She was a member of River Road Baptist Church.  She worked at Russell Corporation for 35 years and retired as a spinner.

Mrs. Katie loved flowers and had many flower beds that she maintained.  She was a very kind and gentle lady, but no one messed with her flowers.  She was an avid reader and passed down her love of reading to her family.  Her family was very important to her and she loved them dearly.

She is survived by her son, Billy J. Whaley of Alexander City; daughter, Helen Whaley Kilgore of Texas; grandchildren, Kim Forman (Michael), Jeri Wink (Benny), Brian Whaley (Shelly), Lisa Whaley and Devan Klucas; ten great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, R.S. Whaley and Samuel L. Cotney; daughter, Linda Williams; son, David R.S. Whaley; sister, Therial Strickland, Wilma Marie Dean, Ethel Parsons.
