Funeral service for Mrs. Madelle Ruth Johnson Greer, 96, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Bro. James Cullins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alexander City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Greer passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Chapman HealthcareCenter. She was born on September 14, 1916 in Coosa County, Alabama to Nathan A. Johnson and Ada Louvenia Wilson Johnson. Madelle & Herschel Greer lived inAlexander City and over the years owned and operated several businesses in which Mrs. Greer worked as their bookkeeper. In 1959 the family moved to Moultrie, Ga.and operated their family owned Western Auto Store until Mr. Greer’s death in 1970. Mrs. Greer moved back to Alex City in 1971 to be near family. She was a resident of Robinwood Apts for many years until moving to Hillabee Towers in 2010 and Chapman’s Health Care in 2011. She was a member of Alex City Church of Christ.
She is survived by her children, Herschel Greer of Ocilla, Ga., John Greer of Bamberg, SC, Julianne (Gary ) Cockey of Tampa, Fl., and David (Patsy) Greer of Alex City; grandchildren, Holly (Rudy) Gwaltney of Bamberg, SC, John (Jeanna) Greer of Atlanta, Ga., Bonny Verrechio of St. Augustine, Fl., Perry Greer of Ocilla, Ga., Dana Davis of Asheville, NC, Rachel (Matt) Willis of Atlanta, Ga., and Nathan (Lindsay) Greer of Atlanta, Ga.; 11 Great-Grandchildren: Brittny, Ben, Bethany, Caleb, Javy, Sloan, Hunter, Loren, Logan, Audrey, and Layla. Nieces & Nephews: Ramona Atkisson, Louis Johnson, Martha Lambert, Sally Fries, Ann Marbut, Bill King, Sue King, Charles & George Lumpkin, Frank, Miles, Mickey(dec.), & Carolyn Greer, Rebecca Thompson, Emerson, Wade, & Glen Brown, Jackie & Yancey (dec.) Greer, Robert & Bryant Greer, Margie(dec.), Don & Dan Greer and Dwight Bell.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herschel H. Greer, Sr., infant son, Michael Wayne Greer, brother, Thomas L. Johnson, sister, Clemie J. Lumpkin, and daughter-in-law, Linda Tucker Greer.
