Jackson’s Gap VFD to hold ‘haunted’ fundraiser

Published 11:57am Tuesday, October 23, 2012

The woods surrounding Jackson’s Gap are becoming haunted – but for a good cause.

Jackson’s Gap Fire Department will be hosting their second annual haunted woods Oct. 25- Oct. 31 on Camp ASCCA Drive.

“We’re hoping this event will be even better than it was last year,” said Assistant Fire Chief Troy Cruz. “All the proceeds will go to the volunteer fire department to help us pay our bills and match a grant for new equipment.”

Cruz said the grant would provide the fire department with the money to purchase new breathing apparatuses.

“When we go in a house we’ll have more air on our backs,” Cruz said. “Right now the devices we have only hold enough air for 20 to 30 minutes. The new ones will be lighter and hold enough for an hour.”

Cruz said purchasing new equipment is an important step for the department.

“We’re trying to get up-to-date and get the program going in the right direction,” Cruz said.

He said the haunted woods will begin at 7 p.m. with several different scenes and characters walking among the woods.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under age 12. Refreshments will be sold and candy will be distributed to children.
