Despite an anemic first half performance, Coosa Central prevailed over Thorsby with a 27-8 region win last night.

“I was really excited with the way we played,” said head coach Richard Bell. “We were sluggish in the first quarter and had some bonehead penalties, but we really took it to them offensively in the second half.”

The Cougars only put up 50 total yards of offense in the first half and went into the locker room tied with the rebels 8-8.

The second half proved to be a different story, with Shakerian Hayes leading the Cougar rushing game. Hayes had 2 rushes for the night for a total of 56 yards

“We wore them down with our depth, and we knew we had them after that,” Bell said.

At the end of the third quarter, the Cougars were up 22-8.

Xavier Moon completed 11 of 16 passing attempts for a total of 197 yards and two touchdowns. Moon found the hands of Javaris Whetstone the most, with Whetstone snatching up six grabs for 138 total yards.

Justin Fuller had four receptions for 51 yards.

Defensively, the Cougars racked up five sacks for the night and forced two turnovers. Hayes picked up the only interception of the game.

Central hosts region rival B.B Comer next week.
