Adams Health and Rehab hosted a voter rally Wednesday to boost support of the Sept. 18 vote for the amendment that will transfer money from the Alabama Trust Fund to the Alabama General Fund. The rally featured free food and live music.

These cheerful ladies with their campaign T shirts may have little understanding of the issues which have precipitated the referendum on Sept 18. They, like other hospital and nursing home employees have likely been given propaganda that they will lose their jobs if this amendment does not pass. They also likely have been told that the nursing homes will close their doors and the elderly will be turned out if the vote is No on Sept 18. It is unfortunate that these scare tactics are essentially going unchallenged to a large extent. The pro-amendment forces are well organized and funded by a war chest of $750,000.00 at the latest count. These large corporations and big money health care companies are money hungry and are not particularly concerned about where that money comes from. The anti-amendment forces are basically grass-roots volunteers who have nothing to gain from their work except to see that the right thing is done. I hope that everyone reading this article and comment will vote for the side of fiscal responsibility and preservation of the Alabama Trust Fund. Don’t be stampeded into voting for something you don’t understand or don’t believe in.
