Alexander City will take to the streets Sept. 28 to celebrate Benjamin Russell High School’s homecoming.
“Homecoming is always such a special time,” said Jose Reyes, BRHS principal. “We have a very good crowd, and lots of alumni return for the homecoming game.”
The homecoming game will be at 7 p.m. against Talladega. The homecoming parade will begin at 2:30 p.m.
The parade will line up in front of Hamp Lyon Stadium on Calhoun Street at noon.
Floats will move down Calhoun Street turning left at Carlisle Drugs go through the roundabout turn onto Church Street and end at the high school.
Reyes said city schools will be released early to try to prevent traffic problems as they travel through downtown.
Radney Elementary and Jim Pearson Elementary will be released at 11:15 a.m. Stephens Elementary, the high school and middle school will be released at 11:35 p.m.
Parade participants are asked to register before Sept. 25. Registration forms can be found online at www.alex.k12.al.us/brhs/. Registration can be completed online or returned to the Benjamin Russell main office.
Questions can be addressed to Tracy McGhee at 256-234-8611 or tmcghee@alex.k12.al.us
There is no fee to participate in the event, but participants are asked to wear Wildcat colors of maroon and white.
“We want the focus to be on the schools. That’s why we’re here – to support the Wildcats and the kids,” Reyes said.
The homecoming game entry fee will be $7 and parking will be $5. Prepaid parking and Quarterback Club members are allowed to enter from Highway 22. All other parking will be on the Elkahatchee side of the Sportplex.
