BRHS goes for 2-0 in Region

Published 8:55am Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Benjamin Russell High School’s 42-6 victory over region opponent Marbury was at times shaky and at times solid.
The Wildcats came out slow in the first quarter but poured on 21 points in the second quarter to wind up coasting by midway through the third quarter of the contest.
Benjamin Russell will face another region opponent this coming Friday night when they go on the road for the first time in 2012 at Booker T. Washington High School in Tuskegee.
BRHS (2-0) enters the contest having won the last two meetings against Washington (0-2), both played in 2000 and 2001.
The 2001 contest wound up being a 48-13 Benjamin Russell victory, as the Wildcats would go on to win the Class 5A state championship later that season.
Benjamin Russell is coming off one of their best offensive performances in head coach Danny Horn’s four year tenure, racking up over 400 yards of total offense against Marbury, 220 of which came from the arm of junior quarterback Bryant Horn.
Runningback Quez Alvies added one touchdown, while junior tailback Labrenikin Johnson also had two touchdowns in the victory.
Booker T. Washington will come into the game having lost 11 straight game dating back to last season, and have lost the first two games of 2012 to Tallassee, 59-18, and Eufaula, 46-19.
The teams are set for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday night.
