Mrs. Durden passed away on Monday, Sept. 10 at Brown Nursing Home. She was born on October 12, 1927 in Coosa County, Alabama to George Benjamin Fuller and Mahala Etta Traylor Fuller. Mrs. Bessie worked at the #6 Mill at Russell Corp. for most of her life. She retired early to enjoy keeping her grandsons after school. Her grandsons were her pride and joy. Among the many virtues Mrs. Bessie had, the best was that she was a Christian lady and had always drawn anyone she met to Jesus especially her family and friends. Actually Mrs. Bessie had always included her friends in her family, because she loved them so much. She attended church at Bradford United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Bessie’s hobbies were growing flowers and sharing them with her friends, working “Word-Find” puzzles, and one of her favorites was cooking for her family and friends.
If you visited Mrs. Bessie’s kitchen, she would insist that you eat something. While she enjoyed cooking, she also liked to eat out and shop at the malls.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ralph Franklin Durden of Goodwater; daughter, Debra Fennell (Butch) of Goodwater; grandchildren, Shane Fennell and Andy Fennell both of Chelsea; sister, Evie Nolen (McWayne) of New Site; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jewell Brown, Molly Fuller, and Gertrude Fuller; and brothers, Tom Fuller, Jimmy Fuller, Willie Fuller, and Joe Fuller.
The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be given to the charity of one’s choice.
