Funeral service for Mrs. Thelma Louise McCain Ray Banks, 84, of Alexander City, will be Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Sheldon Hutcherson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Clay County. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Banks passed away on Monday, September 10, 2012 at Russell Medical Center. She was born on March 7, 1928 in Clay County, Alabama to Owens McCain and Carrie Bell Lovelady McCain. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Banks worked for Russell Corp. for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, music and dancing, and doing word search puzzles.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula Weldon (John) of Alexander City, Cathy Fuller (Walter) of Cragford, and Martha Formby (Lash) of Wetumpka; 9 Grandchildren; 11 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren; sisters, Opal Jett, Bonnie Malphurs, and Bobbie McConnell; brother, Arthur McCain; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.L. Ray; husband, Thomas Banks; her parents; sister, Marjorie Gortney; and brothers, Hugo McCain and John Winford McCain.
