Learning early to help others
Published 12:05pm Friday, September 7, 2012Students from Jacob’s Ladder Creative Learning Center have been learning about helping others by participating in Meals on Wheels.
“The kids talk about it after: ‘Am I going to get to do Meals on Wheels again? Am I going to get to do Meals on Wheels again?’” said Kim McAlister, director of Jacob’s Ladder. “It’s just been really great.”
McAlister said they began working with the program over the summer, taking a vanload of children in kindergarten through sixth grade each week. Now, to continue it with the younger children, she is taking two children each time, who help deliver food at 10–12 stops along their Thursday route.
During the route, she said she talks to them about what they’re doing and why, as well as how they are doing God’s work.
“We wanted to do more service projects with them and teach them about helping others,” McAlister said.
