The Regional Rivals
Published 9:56am Thursday, September 6, 2012Both Horseshoe Bend and Reeltown High Schools will kick off their Regional schedule tomorrow night when they face off in New Site.
Horseshoe Bend (1-0) is coming off of a 59-21 stomping of Class 1A Wadley, while the Rebels (0-1) lost to Class 4A rival Dadeville High School 26-12.
“We’ve got to put last week behind us, it won’t do us any good now,” said Reeltown head coach Jackie O’Neal.
“Horseshoe Bend is a much improved team and I commend coach Franklin for doing a good job with his kids.”
Reeltown will have to stop HBHS athlete Cory Battle, who compiled over 370 total yards and five touchdowns over Wadley, while HBHS will have to contain the run behind the four-headed monster of Tywone Stewart, James Smith, Jim Parks and Ariko Stewart.
“We know it is going to be 48 minutes of pure physical football and I told our guys to put the success of last week behind them,” HBHS head coach Jason Franklin said.
“We are going to take it one game at a time and this Friday is just another step.”
O’Neal echoed much of the same for the mind set of the Rebels headed into the beginning of Region play tomorrow night.
“I want our guys to be physical and contain the deep threat of Horseshoe Bend,” O’Neal said.
“We want to be able to pound the ball on the ground and control the line of scrimmage throughout the game.”
Horseshoe Bend and Reeltown are set for a 7 p.m. kickoff tomorrow night in New Site.
