No. 6 Benjamin Russell High School girls volleyball split matches with Carver-Montgomery and Jeff Davis High Schools Tuesday night in Montgomery.
The Lady Wildcats (8-3) defeated Carver in the first set of their match against he Lady Wolverines, but lost the last two.
Benjamin Russell then reestablished themselves against Jeff Davis, losing the first set 26-24, but winning the second and third sets 25-20 and 15-10 to pull out the win.
“I just thought the girls came out flat and it showed at times,” said BRHS head volleyball coach Pam Robinson, whose Lady Cats remain ranked in the top-10 of Class 5A three weeks into the season.
“We were caught out of position a lot, and we have to work on discipline and reading defenses to get better for area play.”
Benjamin Russell kicks off area volleyball play this afternoon on the road at Marbury High School.
“It’s important for us to start off on the right foot in area play,” Robinson added.
“Being able to host the area tournament at the end of the season is a big advantage, and having the chance to do that begins (tonight) at Marbury.”
