Benjamin Russell High School junior quarterback Bryant Horn and senior linebacker Javion Banks, as well as Horseshoe Bend High School senior athlete Cory Battle all earned AHSAA Spotlight Honors yesterday afternoon per the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
Horn was recognized for his 9-of-13 for 172 yards passing performance against longtime Class 6A rival Opelika. Horn connected with senior tight end Woo Varner for a touchdown in the first quarter as the Wildcats held onto a 14-7 victory over the Bulldogs.
Banks showed Wildcat fans why he will be the anchor for the BRHS defense in 2012, earning honors for his 15 tackle, one interception and one sack performance against Opelika, who only managed 80 rushing yards against the Wildcat defense.
Battle put on an athletic showcase in the local area’s first high school football game of the 2012 season last Thursday night in New Site against Wadley.
The talented wide receiver and kick returner finished the game with 374 all-purpose yards and five total touchdowns as the Generals ran out to an early lead and coasted to a 59-21 season opening victory.
