Benjamin Russell High School officially begins the 2012 high school football season tonight by hosting longtime rival Opelika High School at the Charles E. Bailey Sportplex beginning at 7 p.m.
The game is the reemergence of the rivalry which has been put on hold since the 2005 season, as the squads had played each other every season since 1945 up until that point.
Tickets at the gate will be $7, as there is expected to be a strong crowd being that the contest is the season opener for both schools.
Benjamin Russell holds the all-time series lead against the Bulldogs at a 35-28-3 mark.
With that being said, the Wildcats have lost their last five contests against Opelika dating back to 2001, with the score of the 2005 contest being 21-3 in favor of Opelika.
Gates open around 6 p.m. tonight with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
