In what was their first and only preseason game of the 2012 season, the Lyman Ward Military Academy Rangers defeated South Montgomery Christian Academy Thursday night by a score of 21-8.
Lyman Ward put up one of their best offensive games in recent years, as quarterback Charlie Bunten threw for 225 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Bunten connected with Dillan McMullen for a 61 yard touchdown reception, and then dialed up another 53 yard touchdown pass to Zach Thompson for the Rangers.
Defensive back Sam Johnson added to the winning effort defensively with a 61 yard touchdown reception, while defensive teammates Malcolm Griffith and Berez Phillips combined for 14 tackles.
Blake Blanchard added seven tackles and one sack for Lyman Ward.
“We really looked like we are finally putting things together,” said LWMA second year head coach Dwayne Thomas.
“The kids played hard and we still have a long way to go, but we are learning to play like champions.”
Lyman Ward kicks off the 2012 season at home against Macon-East Academy on Aug. 24.
