Chamber, TPI to host forums
Published 2:29pm Tuesday, July 17, 2012Two candidate forums are in the works so community members can inform themselves as the August elections draw closer.
The forums are being sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Tallapoosa Publishers, Inc.
“The first we have scheduled for Aug. 9, and that will be specifically for the candidates for all the different council positions,” said Chamber president Marvin Wagoner.
The second forum on Aug. 16 will be a mayoral candidate forum.
Wagoner said they will soon be able to confirm the location, which will be somewhere in Alexander City.
“Between now and the forum we’ll gather questions from the community to use to ask each candidate three questions,” Wagoner said.
After opening remarks of 1–2 minutes, Wagoner said each candidate will be asked three questions based on community concerns. The questions will not be distributed to the candidates beforehand.
Wagoner said he anticipates candidates taking about a minute to answer each question and one or two minutes for their closing remarks.
The doors will open at 5 p.m. and the forum will begin at 5:30 p.m., to allow citizens to submit last minute questions for consideration for the forum.
Wagoner said he anticipates each forum being approximately a two-hour event.
To submit a question, write it down and take it by the Chamber of Commerce.
