Lake Martin Animal Shelter hosts third Bow Wow LuauPublished 2:31pm Friday, June 29, 2012
The Lake Martin Animal Shelter will host its third annual summer fundraiser July 7.
Manager Mia Chandler said the Bow Wow Luau is a free family-oriented event, and she encourages families to bring their pets as well.
Children’s activities will be available including inflatables, a dunk tank, games and prizes. Local dog businesses, including groomers and pet store owners, will also set up tents.
“We will also have a silent auction with lots of great stuff to raise money for the shelter,” Chandler said. “We’ll have local art work, gift certificates, gift baskets – something to accommodate any budget.”
During the event, the shelter will also raffle off three items.
“We are raffling off a three–day, two–night stay at the Margarita Lake House, courtesy of Lake Martin Vacation Team,” Chandler said. “It sleeps six and is located at a private location. We will also raffle off a two-person package, one-hour flyover of Lake Martin, courtesy of E. Paul Jones, and also a one year membership at Anytime Fitness.”
Chandler said the Lake House vacation is valued at $800, the one-year membership to Anytime Fitness is valued at $500, and the flight over Lake Martin is “priceless.”
Raffle tickets cost $1 per entry, and there is no limit to how many a person can buy.
Event T-shirts will also be for sale, $10 for youth sizes and $15 for adult sizes.
Chandler said the fundraiser event started years ago when she realized there were no pet-friendly events or locations. She said she thought it was an opportunity to do something for the community as well as raise money for the shelter.
Proceeds from the event go toward the general budget to assist with labor, the general maintenance of the shelter and “plenty of invoices.”
“We were fortunate to have Russell Lands offer assistance in order to host an event,” Chandler said. “It’s been a lot of fun, the turnout has been great, and we hope for an even bigger crowd than last year.”
Chandler said the shelter’s goal this year is $5,000.
“I’m excited,” Chandler said. “Bring you friends, your pets, have lots of fun, and we’ll have plenty of free water and sunscreen.”
The Bow Wow Luau will be held July 7 at the green on Russell Crossroads on Highway 63 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
LMAS will be closed during the event, Chandler said.
