Published 6:07pm Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Every night next week will be considered a charity night for The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Martin.
BGCLM’s “Campaign for Kids” will give Alexander City residents a chance to give while also enjoying a good meal.
Monday through Friday of next week, from 5–9 p.m., different restaurants in the Alexander City area will give 10 percent of sales to the BGC.
The following are a list of the participating restaurants:
- Monday, June 25, Papa Bello’s Pizza
- Tuesday, June 26, J.R.’s Sports Bar & Grill
- Wednesday, June 27, Jim Bob’s Chicken Fingers
- Thursday, June 28, Jake’s Restaurant
- Friday, June 29, Zaxby’s
“This is something we do every year, and the money goes toward school supplies and different things for the Boys & Girls Club,” said executive director Melissa Reynolds. “This is also a way to enable us to continue to meet the needs of our club members by providing good programs, volunteers and stuff to run the program for the upcoming year.”
Reynolds said she hopes the community will come out and support them next week and also thanked the restaurant owners for their contributions.
BGCLM is a non-profit organization that serves children within the community, and it is the only BGC in Alexander City. On an average week, the organization serves more than 100 children and teenagers, providing a positive place for them to go after school and during the summer months.
BGCLM programs provide character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, as well as arts, sports, fitness, recreation and special initiatives. The teen program also provides community service opportunities.
To sign up for BGCLM, visit the center to register. Registration for the summer months is $15 along with a $35 weekly fee for all participants in a single-child household or $35 in a multiple-child household. The first child costs $35, and then it’s $25 per each extra child.
Hot lunches are provided at no extra cost, and snacks are available at 50 cents for juice or snacks and $1 for candy bars and Gatorade.
For more information or to register, contact the main office at 256-234-4757. BGCLM is open from 3–6:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
