Boys and Girls Club to rally motorcycles for fundraiser

The Lake Martin Area Boys and Girls Club will host a motorcycle rally fundraiser Saturday, May 19.

“This is a new fundraiser that we’re starting,” said Jenifer Smith, executive assistant.

Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday morning in the Roses parking lot in the Alex City Shopping Center. Cost is $25 for a single rider and $35 for a rider and passenger.

All brands, makes and models of motorcycles are welcome, Smith said.

Motorcyclists will begin their route in the Rose’s parking lot, traveling for around 2 and a half hours before ending their journey at JR’s Sports Bar and Grill.

“We are going down Highway 22, Highway 49, Highway 50 and up Highway 9 back to JR’s,” Smith said.

Smith said the Boys and Girls Club purchased Boston butts from the local Boy Scouts, and Ann Berry at JR’s will be cooking them to prepare barbecue plates after the ride.

“She has been very helpful,” Smith said.

The Boys and Girls Club will also offer door prizes and a 50/50 drawing at JR’s.

“The bikers can pay $1 for a ticket, and we put the tickets in a drawing and draw one,” Smith said. “Whichever biker gets it will get 50 percent of the proceeds (of the drawing).”

Smith said the funds raised from the rally will be used to pay for various events for the children of the Boys and Girls Club.

“It will be for the kids,” Smith said. “We might buy special things for them or do field trips.”

Smith said she expects at least 60 bikers to participate in the fundraiser but she hopes more will attend.

“We would love for everyone to come out and ride for a cause,” she said.
