Russell Lands holds successful Derby Day party

Saturday morning Bride to Be Hadley Howell’s Miscellaneous Tea was held at The Lunch Bunch. Guests nibbled on appetizers prepared by Deborah Blair, including amazing red velvet cake sandwiches, and sipped mimosas as they viewed Hadley’s beautiful wedding gifts. Among the gifts were several place settings of her china, an industrial style juicer, a high powered vacuum cleaner, wine glasses, a sewing machine, serving platters, barware and flatware.

Saturday afternoon Russell Lands held their annual Derby Day Party at The Stables to much success. The large crowd mingled and drank mint juleps as they cheered on I’ll Have Another to victory in the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby.

Saturday evening a Bed, Bath, and Bar Shower was held in honor of the upcoming nuptials of Hadley Howell and Kris Gilliland at the Glynmere Clubhouse in Willow Point on Lake Martin. The ambience was set by chandelier dripped tents, margarita machines and a rowboat iced down with cold drinks. On Monday afternoon at RMC, an Ice Cream Social was held in celebration of National Nurses Day. The nurses flowed through as their busy schedules allowed, topping bowls of vanilla ice cream with condiments such as hot fudge, chocolate and strawberry sauces, bananas, Oreos, nuts and chocolate chips. Monday evening Gallery 128 at Emporium Wine held an opening reception for artist Elaine Shields of Northport, Alabama. Elaine’s vibrant oil paintings depicting still life set-ups and landscapes are often inspired by her many travels, and will be on display and available for purchase through May 25.

Tuesday Bridge Club was held this week at Willow Point Country Club. I joined the ladies for brunch and we absorbed amply buttered rolls, fresh fruit parfait, shrimp and mushroom roll ups, hashbrown casserole, and spinach.
