BRHS softball begins area play tonight

Published 11:37am Tuesday, March 13, 2012

The Benjamin Russell Lady Wildcat softball team has flirted around the .500 mark all season long, and continued that trend this past weekend with a 1-2 finish in the Wetumpka Tournament.
After winning their first game over Robert E. Lee, BRHS (6-8) fell to American Christian 5-4 Friday night and Northview-Dothan 6-3 on Saturday.
Despite the up and down performances, the Lady Wildcats are hoping for consistency starting tonight with area play vs. Wetumpka at Pam Robinson field.
“We’ve just got to get consistent in the field and at the plate for area play,” BRHS head coach Tal Morrison said.
“We need to be ready for a good team in Wetumpka and expect an entire team effort for the win.”
Benjamin Russell will call on either Haley Milner or Tatum Gandy to get the start on the mound tonight, as both pitchers have been strong from the mound so far in 2012.
From the plate, Gandy is also one to watch, as well as center fielder Cookie Kelley, who already has one homerun this year for BRHS.
“Right now, our focus is on us, and what we need to do to make ourselves successful, not really our opponents,” Morrison added.
“We’re looking forward to starting area play and getting it going.”
BRHS and Wetumpka are set for a 6 p.m. start tonight at the Sportplex.
