Glenwood’s defense forced six turnovers and led the high-scoring Gators to a 63-0 shutout of Lyman Ward in Alabama Independent School Association Class AAA play Friday night at Sammy Howard field.
Deion Goshay and Cole Knight led the defense as Goshay had a 59-yard interception return in the first half and Knight had a 25-yard fumble recovery return in the second. Chase Silvani, the Gators’ leading pass receiver, also got into the act has he ran back and interception 65 yards for another score.
Glenwood had four interceptions and an additional fumble recovery to stymie the winless Rangers, now 0-5 and 0-3 in the conference. Glenwood also had two scores negated by penalties: a 102-yard pass interception and a 30-yard TD pass.
Xavier Bond turned in another 100-yard plus game with 141 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns on the ground, and Goshay added a running touchdown and 101 yards on the ground as well. Will Allison again did not play due to a rib injury.
After a 7-0 first quarter, the Gators blew open the game with 21 points in the second quarter to make it 28-0, Bond already had scored on a 16-yard run in the first quarter when Goshay intercepted a Ranger pass and ignited the scoring spree with his interception return.
That was followed by a second TD by Bond, and then Brandon Daley found D’Arrington Walker on a 33-yard TD pass just before halftime. Walker also scored a second touchdown on a 25-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Lyman Ward will be back at home next week when they take on Lee-Scott, slated for a 7 p.m. start.long-term
