Alex City Sports Foundation set to meet Aug.24Published 5:50pm Wednesday, August 17, 2011
The Alexander City Sports Foundation will hold their next meeting Aug. 24 to discuss numerous aspects within Alexander City athletics.
“One of our main goals for right now is really turning our focus toward continuing to raise overall participation in recreation fall sports,” ACSF president Randy Lee said. “We want to ensure that our numbers continue to rise as we look toward these fall sports that are just around the corner.”
The ACSF meets at 6 p.m. every other Wednesday at J.R.’s Sports Bar and Grill and mainly focuses on ways to improve communication and funding for athletic associations throughout Alexander City.
The ACSF most recently held a field day Aug. 6 to encourage youths to go out and get involved with a number of different sports.
“As a whole, we thought the field day was a great success,” Lee said. “We had great participation and really enjoyed putting the event on for the kids.”
The ACSF has also made significant improvements to the football complex at the Sportplex, including a new wall mural, pressure washing the football press box, and creating a new design for the football field.
“We want to be able to get out and do whatever we can do to improve our facilities,” Lee said.
The ACSF encourages anyone interested in attending this coming weeks meeting to do so.
“Anyone who has any questions or concerns regarding local athletics is more than welcome to attend the regular meetings,” Lee said. “We are growing and growing every week and we look forward to seeing what else we can do in the future.”
