Blues Traveler to headline Labor Day Weekend Concert at Lake Martin AmphitheaterPublished 9:24pm Wednesday, July 27, 2011
Blues Traveler, a Grammy award-winning band best known for its 1994 hit “Run-Around,” will headline the Labor Day Weekend Concert this year.
The concert, the last in the Russell Lands On Lake Martin Concert Series, will also feature Tea Leaf Green and The Vegabonds, said Robert Gunn, director of events and social media.
Gunn said the bands are well known in the area and their styles complement each other well.
“Blues Traveler has been around for a while. They have a good name presence,” he said.
Blues Traveler has recorded 12 albums and has played more than 2,000 shows, according to the band’s website. “Run-Around was the longest-charting radio single in the history Billboard, the magazine that tracks the most popular songs and albums.
Tea Leaf Green is a San Francisco-based group that Gunn describes as similar to a “jam band.”
The Vegabonds performed at the first night of Jazz Fest in 2010. Richard Forehand, an Alexander City native, is a member of the group, which was formed in 2009 and has played throughout Alabama.
Gunn said a limited number of presale tickets are now available at a discounted price. The presale tickets cost $20 and are available at www.lmat.org.
Once the presale tickets are sold, tickets may be purchased in advance at www.ticketbiscuit.com for $25 or at the gates of the amphitheater on the day of the show for $30.
The concert will be held Sunday, Sept. 4, at the Lake Martin Amphitheater on Highway 63. The gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and the show will start at 6 p.m.
