Billingsley/South team fall in Montgomery

Published 4:51pm Friday, July 15, 2011

The South All-Stars didn’t have quite the result they were looking for this past Wednesday night as they fell to the North squad 79-41.

Former Edward Bell High School star and soon to be Dadeville High School star Kierra Billingsley managed to get solid minutes for the South squad although only scoring three points.

The North squad hopped out to a fast start with a 17-2 lead in the first few minutes before holding a 26-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

“We didn’t get off to the start we wanted to as a team and we were never really able to make up any of that ground,” Billingsley said.

The South team managed to find some rhythm throughout the second quarter to cut the score to 49-25 at the half.

Andalusia Alexis Horton led the South squad with 12 points to garner MVP honors in the game while the North squad was led by Bob Jones High Schools Jasmine Jones who scored 22 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Billingsley, who averaged 17.2 points to go along with  five assist, four rebounds and four steals last year for the Lady Bears is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the All-Star Week and plans to take so of the things that she learned in Montgomery with her to the court next year when she switches to Dadeville High School due to the closing for EBHS.

“It was great to be able to play with so many great players and experience playing with some different people,” said Billingsley, who shot 83 percent from the free throw line while draining 67 three point shots for EBHS in the 2010-2011 season. “I definitely learned that it is important to be able to be prepared for anything on the basketball court because you never know what is going to come your way on the court.”

Billingsley will now turn her attention to the upcoming season where both Edward Bell and Dadeville will combine their rosters for the 2011-2012 season in what fans hope will be one of the best teams in the state.
