‘Taste of Lake Martin’ seeks donations

The Tallapoosa County chapter of the American Red Cross and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Lake Martin Area are seeking sponsors for a joint “Taste of Lake Martin” fundraiser that will be held Aug. 1.

Melissa Poe, executive director of the Red Cross, said they are looking for traditional business sponsors and restaurants that will donate food for the event, which will be held at The Shoppes of Queen’s Attic.

“We want little taste teasers or whatever they want to bring,” she said. “Right now we’re looking for sponsors and talking with restaurants … It would just tickle me to death if we could fill up The Shoppes of Queen’s Attic.”

The organizers hope to have at least 10 food vendors that will be willing to “showcase their best appetizers, mini meals and desserts that the Lake Martin area has to offer.”

Poe said she and Amanda Davis, the director of resource development of the Boys and Girls Club, have discussed hosting a fundraiser for several years. After the April 27, 2011, tornado, the groups learned that the organizations work better together to meet local needs and they moved forward with the planning.

Poe said the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce sponsored a similar event in the past, but it’s been several years since it was held.

“We just wanted to bring it back,” she said.

Poe said they will begin calling restaurants across the Lake Martin area to see if they want to participate in the event. She encouraged food vendors to call her or Davis if they aren’t contacted.

Four levels of sponsorship will be available for businesses. Ticket prices have not been set and will be announced at a later date.

  • Platinum – This level costs $1,000 and provides 10 admission tickets, 80 radio spots and signage at the event.
  • Gold – Gold – This level costs $750 and includes 6 admission tickets, 80 radio spots and signage at the event.
  • Silver – This level costs $500 and includes 4 admission tickets, 80 radio spots and signage at the event.
  • Bronze – This level costs $250 and includes two admission tickets, 80 radio spots and signage at the event.

Contact information for the Red Cross is 256-234-3291 and the Boys and Girls Clubs is 256-234-4757.
