Goody’s hosts grand re-opening
Published 7:45pm Thursday, March 17, 2011Callers to the new Goody’s store in the Marketplace Shopping Center might hear the name Peebles by accident.
That’s because the store officially changed its name Thursday with a grand re-opening after two weeks of renovations were completed, but store manager Amy Shade said staff members have been preparing for the name change.
“It may happen a time or two because we are creatures of habit, but we’ve been practicing,” Shade said.
She said the store was closed for four days in order to make the transition at the end of a two-week period for renovation.
“It was a lot of hard work and long hours,” Shade said. “We worked 14 or 15 hours a day if necessary.”
Shade said the changes include new fixtures, new lighting and some new merchandise. The store kept the same staff, but added some new faces, Shade said.
Peebles parent company purchased the Goody’s name during an auction when the stores closed nationally in 2009. The company changed the name for better brand recognition.
Shade expects business to pick up drastically under the Goody’s name.

I really hope they are successful. However, it has been my experience that the “new” Goody’s is just Peebles renamed, and not our familiar (and very much missed) Goody’s. I was extremely disappointed by the Oxford store when they reopened. I shopped at Goody’s because of the prices and the quality. Not saying Peebles doesn’t have good quality – they do. But their prices are a little steep for my wallet.
