A Coosa County man was arrested Friday in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old male at a Montgomery area YMCA.

Michael Lee Harris, 63, was charged Friday with one count of first-degree sodomy, according to the Montgomery Police Department.

Bob McGaughey, President and CEO of the YMCA Montgomery Metro Branch, said the alleged incident happened in the locker room of the Bell Road YMCA location, according to a report from WSFA 12 News.

The MPD said they initiated the investigation last Tuesday, March 8, after the 15-year-old victim’s parents contacted the police department.

McGaughey told WSFA that they too reported the incident to police.

“As soon as it was reported to us, it was beyond our scope of dealing with, that’s why the police were involved; in fact the police were involved before we even finished the report,” McGaughey said.

McGaughey added that the YMCA turned over logs of everyone who entered the building within two hours of the time of the incident and that the YMCA takes the safety of its members seriously. He said Harris would likely be barred from entering a Montgomery YMCA ever again.

Harris was arrested Friday at the Montgomery Police Headquarters and was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility. He has since been released from the jail on bond, according to the report from WSFA.

The MPD said the investigation of the incident is ongoing.
