Feb 1 set as registration deadline for Miss Winter pageant
Published 8:46pm Wednesday, January 5, 2011On Saturday, Feb. 19, the 2011 Miss Winter Pageant will be held in the auditorium of Dadeville High School with the award festivities beginning at 7 p.m.
The contest will be divided into seven age groups and is intended for girls and young ladies between the ages of 2 and 21.
Preliminary judging for the event will be held the morning of the award segment in the auditorium, also, with rehearsals for the entire show being held the day before, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m.
“Contestants from last year, they’ll get (a registration form) in the mail,” pageant director Sherri Williams said. “New contestants can call me and I’ll email them an application or they can pick one up.”
Registration will cost $100 and according to Williams there are three locations where the forms can be picked up: Lake Martin Physical Therapy in Alexander City, Little Lambs and Ivy Day School in Dadeville or at DHS through Lisa Moran, a teacher in the school’s Media Center. The deadline for registering is Feb. 1.
Williams expects entrants to include girls from around the state, not just locally.
“We have girls coming down from Birmingham,” she said.
The contestants will be joined by a couple of special guests – the reigning Miss Alabama Teen USA, Rae Williams, who happens to be the director’s daughter, and Madeline Mitchell, the current Miss Alabama USA.
“(Madeline and Rae) are going to split duties,” Williams said. “They’ll be there all day (and) they’re both, together, going to be my emcees this year.”
And, according to Williams, the young ladies will be made available for picture opportunities after the Saturday ceremony.
The pageant’s evaluators will be imported and from a special source as well.
“The judges will be from the Miss USA system,” said Williams.
This year’s Miss Winter will have a new addition to her court that will accompany her and the others on the year’s duties and appearances.
“We have something new this year where people will vote on their favorite contestant,” Williams said. “The winner will receive privileges like the others. They’ll get a crown, a sash and ride in parades. They’ll be called the Miss Winter Princess.”
Williams can be contacted for more information or to coordinate an emailed form at 334-750-3989 or 256-825-5905.
