Members of the Alexander City Kiwanis Club worked Friday to repaint portions of Alexander City Middle School as part of the club’s annual service project.

Members spent most of Friday repainting white paw prints on maroon fields on various parts of the school’s building. The club also repainted flower pots at the front of the school.

This project under the term new president Scott Blake comes at the heels of a similar project at Benjamin Russell High School under former president Tommy Lee.

“Our vision is to help each school in Alexander City,” said project organizer Randy Dawkins.

Blake said this is just another way the club can continue its mission to help students in the community.

“Our focus is kids and that’s why we try to help the school system,” Blake said. “We donate money all the time, but this is our time and labor. It saves them money.”

The project included help from 14 volunteers, much to the delight of Blake.

“We had a good number come out today,” Blake said.

Dawkins was thankful for the members and nonmembers, who helped to support the project this year.

“We’ve accomplished a lot in a short amount of time because of the volunteers,” Dawkins said.
