Local man charged in shooting
Published 7:40pm Monday, September 6, 2010A shooting that occurred on North Central Avenue early Saturday morning has left one Alexander City man dead and another local resident behind bars.
Authorities say they have charged Terrance Stovall, 23, of Alexander City with manslaughter in connection to the fatal shooting of Reginald Tyrone Sweetwyne, 28.
“Stovall was at the residence with a female and Sweetwyne forcefully entered the residence. They struggled and he was shot,” said Sgt. Jay Turner with the ACPD. “It was at the female’s residence. It appears to be a domestic incident that led to the shooting.”
Turner said the police department received a call that there was a shooting at a residence on North Central Avenue Saturday, Sept. 4 at approximately 2 a.m. He said that when they arrived, the residence was unoccupied but there were signs of a disturbance and injuries.
The ACPD then notified Russell Medical Center that a gunshot victim was possibly en route to the hospital. Soon after, Sweetwyne arrived by private vehicle with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead about 30 minutes after his arrival, Turner said.
Turner said Stovall was identified as the suspect after interviewing a witness.
“The office attempted to locate him and he later turned himself in that morning,” Turner said. “We arrested him and charged him with manslaughter.”
Turner said a handgun was used in the shooting.
“The investigation is ongoing, but we don’t expect any more arrests,” Turner said.
Police Chief Charles Rafford said Stovall will be transferred to the Tallapoosa County Jail Tuesday morning. He added that the incident is the first homicide the ACPD has responded to in 2010 and praised the department’s investigation of the case.
“The patrol division responded quickly … and the detective division responded quickly as well,” he said. “They’ve done an excellent job.”
Sounds like self defense to me ! Why even charge him witih anything ?

Humm mabey he was called to the house ? Is that what your saying ? I just read he forced himself into the residence and if that is in fact true, you should be able to protect yourself ….
Maybe… IDK. I wasn’t there and there are a lot of different stories going around about what happened but yes that is one of them. Whatever happened I think it could have been avoided and all persons involved knew each other and it was the residence of his child(ren)’s mother. Personally my opinion she should have stopped it before it got that far. You know the police station is what 5 minutes away. The paper said that there was struggle if so she could have been contacting the police while the struggle was occuring but she made the choice to stand there and watch a fight that left the father of her child(ren) dead.
Not to be rude but from my understanding there was only three people that know what truely happened and two of them have given their statement to the police but unfortunately Reginald can’t tell us his story and we are human. What makes the story they gave police true????
Regardless of who tells what story or who’s not around to tell their side, the evidence will tell the truth. Furthermore, law enforcement are trained and PAID to decipher the truth. Using your current girlfriend’s vehicle to go to the residence of your former girlfriend (whether you have children together or not) and kicking in the front door at almost 2am does not sound like an invited guest looking to have tea no matter how you spin it…

I don’t care who is trained to do what and just because you are a police officer that doesn’t mean you don’t make mistakes. We are all human and if everyone was perfect we wouldn’t have been born into a world of sin. And how old are you???? Don’t you know you can’t always go by what you hear and just cause it was in the paper does not mean it is true. The writer of that article is going by what she was told. She wasn’t there either. And you must not know who the fool was that caused all of this because everybody that knows her knows that she is crazy as h– and I don’t put nothing past her. But it seems like that’s who’s side you are taking so I’m through with that. Also defending youself is one thing but shooting someone numerous times and I do mean numerous times is uncalled for. He was not he-man it didn’t take six shots to stop him. That’s overkill. So you can keep all that mess about the police knowing what they are doing cause that’s a bunch of BS they are not perfect. But just by reading you comment lets me know that you aren’t too bright yourself. I know the shooter and the deceased and I feel bad for both sides. Reginald is no longer here because of some BS and Terrence could have ruined his life as well. And for what??? What has been accomplished by all of this nothing. This young man’s parent’s has lost a child and his kids have lost their father over a female but cause that’s what it boils down to. So how about that for some facts. I sit and read all the comments. And first of all I do hate lil red is gone but when you look for it you find it.And as for everyone knowing eachother yes they do know eachother this is alex city everbody know eveybody this aint new york. There was a life taken yes it was but it could have been the other way around and if tj really mite to do it he wouldn’t have called 911 yes he called. And chaka didn’t sit and wach lil red die read da paper it said he died 30mins after he arrived to da hospital.no matter was someone say bout look @ who she is aint no one perfect she is as well as all a child of god. And to go to someone house @ 2 n da morning he wasn’t goin to eat cookies and milk he was goin to hurt someone. And it just went he othe way around. You can’t run around like there’s no god up above cause he will show you that it is. And dats wat happen.he will show you put no one b4 him. There’s no way around death and it was jus his time. You leave by the sword you die by the sword. Everyone want to read the papers bout all dis ,read the bible. Read something dat really means something.everything happens for a reason. God makes no mistakes.
it looks to me like the guy went there to start trouble but things got turned around on him. The shooter is suffering, he asked the guy to leave and in my opinion he should have left and taken the trouble making woman with him!!!

whoever you are talkin bout learn how to type and spell trust and believe I’m very well educated. Plenty of schooling. You need jesus in your life.but as they say the truth hurts. So you need to pick up da bible and read it.are better yet do something to make your life better. And I would have left town to if someone said they was goin to kill me and I’m pretty sure you would have to.

It was very sad to hear about Reginald. My prayers goes out to the family… Reginald was locked up with my Son and to hear this really touch me….Plus he stayed in touch with my Son and I… You will be Missed…Much Love
