Lake Martin’s AquaPalooza entertains thousands
Published 12:04am Sunday, July 25, 2010AquaPalooza 2010 brought thousands of music fans to Lake Martin a year after Sea Ray’s international signature event held at Kowaliga Bay thrilled visitors.
This year’s event opened with Trotline performing at 12:30 p.m. Brantley Gilbert than took the stage before headliner John Anderson thrilled the audience.
This year’s event was open to concertgoers who arrived by land and by boat. The stage at the show was setup on the beach rather than at the water’s edge to allow for more swimmers, according to Russell Marine President Dave Commander.
“We decided to make it more conducive to swimming,” Commander said. “This is one of the most beautiful beaches on Lake Martin.”
Commander said organizers were happy with the turnout Saturday and credited the popularity of last year’s signature event for the success.
“I’m nery surprised,” Commander said as he gazed out to the water from the beach’s edge. “I knew we’d have 100-200 boats, but I never dreamed it would be like this.”
He estimated that around 15,000 people made it to the event this year.
