BRHS soccer boys beat Trinity
Published 4:59pm Wednesday, March 3, 2010The Benjamin Russell soccer varsity boys won their fourth game in a row on Tuesday in a 3-0 victory against Trinity.
The Wildcats (6-1) defeated TPS in a 60-minute game, 20 minutes shorter than usual.
With about a minute to go in the first half, Mark Chappell broke a 0-0 score with a goal from around 25 yards out.
Goals two and three both were assisted by Hee Soo Kim, as he found Robbin Wilbanks and Brady McMillan in the second half.
“We played very good defense and were aggressive on offense,” head coach Sammy Teel said. “Now that we’re getting into section play, I want to see if we can get it up for some of these games with big games coming behind them.
“With only two of seven teams making the playoffs, it’s almost like sudden death.”
BRHS will play Stanhope on Friday, Thompson on Saturday and then host a pivotal match with Auburn Monday.

The BRHS junior varsity girls team gave the scoreboard a workout on Tuesday, as the Lady Wildcats put 10 goals in the back of the net, ending the game with Central-Phenix City by mercy rule.
The win improves their record to 7-3-1.
“We’re a pretty well-rounded team on both sides of the ball,” head coach Bill Lutz said. “We’ve played great defense and haven’t allowed a goal in three games. Paxton Gordon has been great at goalie, and Laura Nall, Allison Cleveland Lexie Key and Hannah Taunton have been solid on D for us all season.”
The team votes on an MVP every game and Hallie Bain won the award Tuesday, after scoring two goals off the bench. Dru Edwards and Anne Marie Wendling also added two goals apiece.
Allyson Parmer, Magan Brayman, Whitley Bailey and Bethany Miller all scored in the 10-0 win.
