Police located an ATM Friday that was stolen from Wachovia Bank’s Marketplace Financial Center nearly a month ago, according to Alexander City Police Chief Charles Rafford.

Police also discovered a truck they believe was used as part of the theft, but the location of each discovery was not released Monday. It is also unclear how much money was in the ATM at the time of the theft.

“They were found in close proximity to each other,” Rafford said of the discovery. “We are currently investigating the vehicle.”

Rafford also remained tight-lipped as to the condition of the ATM.

“Any more information would be premature at this time,” Rafford said. “We have been in contact with bank officials and other agencies.”

As of Monday, no arrests were made in the case, according to Rafford.

The theft occurred at around 3 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5. Police believe the suspects used a large forklift-like piece of machinery to pull the drive-up ATM out of the concrete.

Attempts to contact bank officials Monday were unsuccessful.
