Grants help community organizations

Tallapoosa County agencies received much needed money from the Alabama Legislature’s Community Service Grant program this week.

Here’s a list of organizations that were helped by the grants: The Alexander City Board of Education, Horseshoe Bend School, the city of New Site , Reeltown High School, Edward Bell School in Camp Hill, Councill Middle School in Dadeville, Tallassee High School, Central Alabama Community College, Lyman Ward Military Academy, Alabama Cooperative Extension Service , Alexander City Arts, Inc., McCraney – Cottle Arts Council in Tallassee, The Boys and Girls Club of Alexander City, The Horseshoe Bend Regional Library, The Adelia M. Russell in Alexander City, the Dadeville Public Library, the Camp Hill Public Library, the Tallassee Community Library and The Wall Street Community Improvement Committee.

All of these organizations split a total of $65,000.

The community service grant checks help local organizations get funding they wouldn’t normally get through other channels. Most of them rely on this money each year to be able to fund other programs.

“It has to be for something that benefits everyone,” Little said. “It has to be inclusive to everyone.”

We believe these organizations that received the checks fit that category very well. It’s good that the state has this program to help out local organizations.
